My creative process allows me to work at a slower rate, to centre myself and enjoy life more.

All of my images are created with a very personal intention to align heart and mind. I love to work with film because of the slowness and care it requires. I particularly love to work with colour film but with the limited availability of colour film lately, I have been working with black and white much more. At first, I saw this as a great hindrance to be without my much-loved expression of colour. But with a new perspective, I saw within this an opportunity to add my own colour in another way. I’ve long been drawn to the tactility and depth of paint and fabric, and now I get to include this with many of my images.

My creative process allows me to work at a slower rate, to centre myself and enjoy life more. I can suffer from sensory overload if I do not take care of my needs. I love to work spontaneously and intuitively, and working with still lifes (and with film) is a lovely way of slowing down and creating space, not just outwardly but also inwardly. There's a lovely harmony to flow with once the mind is clear.

I find the whole creative process so inextricably linked that it's a little difficult to isolate a favourite part along the way. I often feel compelled to create with double exposures, especially in-camera, and it's not so easy to know exactly where the two exposures will be fused, and it's fun to work with the camera in this way to trust the process and allow it to place the exposure exactly where it's supposed to be in that moment. Scanning in the negatives to finally reveal what has been created is always a satisfying experience, and there’s always something new to learn.
